The Impact of Polytheisms on Feelings about Allah (SWT) and Ahl al-Bait (PBUT)

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

The Impact of Polytheisms on Feelings about Allah (SWT) and Ahl al-Bait (PBUT)

There are non-believers who have developed some good morals in themselves and this fact is not denied.  Although the original and perfect human attitudes are the permanent and divine characteristics of Ahl al-Bait (PBUT) and their special followers (Shi’ites), those few developments of non-believers (which are the borrowed characters fitted and aimed only at the pleasures of this world) are the centre of attention for many people.  For such people, mentioning the excellence of the behaviour of Ahl al-Bait (PBUT) and their special followers (Shi’ites) is not pleasant and they rather want to hear and praise the good actions of non-believers than those of the Lights of Allah (Ahl al-Bait (PBUT)).  But why?  Why do these people feel uncomfortable when talking about the superiority and distinction of Ahl al-Bait (PBUT) and become so attracted and inclined to other than them?

The answer to this question lies in the verse 39:45 of the Holy Quran which discusses a symptom of polytheism in worship. This verse is interpreted by Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUH) and Imam Muhammad Taqi (PBUH) as follows:

Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUH) was asked about [the interpretation of] a saying of Allah (SWT), as ‘when Allah is mentioned alone, the hearts of those who do not believe in The Hereafter (The Day of Judgment) are filled with disgust and when those from other than Him are mentioned they become joyful and delighted’ (Holy Quran, 39:45).  Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUH) answered, when Allah (SWT) is mentioned alone by means of urging people to obey only whom Allah has ordered to obey among the progeny of Muhammad [i.e. Ahl al-Bait] (PBUH&HF), then the hearts of those who do not believe in Hereafter are filled with disgust; however, when people whose obedience has not been ordered by Allah (SWT) [i.e. people other than Ahl al-Bait (PBUT)] are mentioned, their hearts are filled with joy [i.e. they feel happy and delighted].” (Ref: al-Kafi, Vol. 8, p. 304)

Imam Muhammad Taqi (PBUH) was asked about al-Murji’ah [those who hope the forgiveness of Allah while believing that action according to His orders is not necessary and that Allah has left people to themselves]. The Imam (PBUH) answered, ‘pray with them (under Taqiyya), attend their funerals, visit their ill; but, behold, when they die, do not appeal forgiveness for them because they were such that if our names [the holy names of Ahl al-Bait (PBUT)] were mentioned before them, their hearts were filled with disgust, and if something/someone was mentioned before them from other than us, their hearts were filled with joy and pleasure!’” (Ref: Bihar al-Anwaar, Vol. 23, Ch. 21, p. 362)

Both narrations in conjunction with the verse 39:45 of the Holy Quran imply that the root of such feelings is the polytheistic view towards the religion of Allah, which also result in lack of belief in the real Hereafter with the specifications that Allah has created.  An important aspect of monotheism is to believe that obedience only belongs to who are from Allah, and are sent by Him to express His commands to mankind.  Obeying the ambassadors of Allah is obeying Allah and obeying other than them against their orders is obeying Satan.

Some Characteristics of Al-Abbas (PBUH)

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Some Characteristics of Al-Abbas (PBUH)

By Dr Hameed H. B. Al-Mas’udi

Al-Abbas (PBUH) received a great deal of praise and appreciation by our immaculate imams, who expressed and indicated their admiration for his heroic deeds which were culminated by his martyrdom while defending the third imam, Al-Hussain Ibn Ali (PBUT) in Karbala in 61 AH. Imam Ali (PBUH), their father, predicted the responsibility of Al-Abbas (PBUH) in defending his brother and his family and companions in Karbala. Imam Hussain (PBUH), when Al-Abbas (PBUH) was just passing away, said, “I have now become helpless”. Imam Zain ul-Abideen (PBUH), the fourth immaculate imam, expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices offered by Al-Abbas (PBUH) in defending his religion and belief. Imam Sadiq (PBUH), our sixth immaculate imam, has reportedly mentioned in his ziaarat (pilgrimage) to Al-Abbas (PBUH), “I testify to you for your submission (to the will of God), honest acceptance as true, loyalty and sincerity to the descendent of the commissioned Prophet (Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household).” Then he addresses him as follows, “You were the most excellent steadfast fighter, protector, supporter and brother who defended his brother, responded to the obedience of his Lord, and worked desirably for gaining the abundant reward, which others refused, and the nice tribute.” (Mafatih al-Jinan (The Keys to the Gardens of Paradise), 2009: 431 and 438)

In the excerpt above, Imam Sadiq (PBUH) mentions some characteristics of Al-Abbas (PBUH). The importance of such characteristics arises from the fact that they are stated by an immaculate, infallible imam, who calls things by their real names. These characteristics are as follows:

  1. Submission to the will of God: Al-Abbas (PBUH) was completely aware of the imamate of his brother, Imam Hussain (PBUH); therefore, he did his best to defend him, not because he was his brother, but because he was his imam, through whom he submitted to Allah (SWT).
  2. Honest acceptance as true: Al-Abbas (PBUH) devoted himself and his three brothers for his belief. He indicated that he was the best representative of a faithful believer throughout his obedience to the Almighty Allah (SWT).
  3. Loyalty:  This characteristic is indicated through his support of the right side represented by his brother, Imam Hussain (PBUH) in his ordeal, although Al-Abbas (PBUH) received a big deal by those enemies who pretended to be his uncles on the part of his mother.
  4. Sincerity: This is another characteristic of Al-Abbas (PBUH). In fact, he was sincere in his defence of his brother Imam Hussain (PBUH) in Karbala, in his fights throughout his life accompanying his father, and in his opposition to the wrongdoers.

In his other speeches, Imam Sadiq (PBUH) furthermore mentioned other features of Al-Abbas (PBUH), such as his clear-sightedness, steadfast faith and jihad for Islam.

Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUH)

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Mourning Event on the Martyrdom Anniversary of Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUH)

Condolence on the martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUH).

Manchester Islamic Institute has invited all Muslims to attend this event to recall the tragedy of the martyrdom of Sadiq Ale Muhammad (PBUT). The event is on 04 October 2010, and will start at 7 pm with Maghrib and Isha prayers, and will be followed by lecture and dirge.

Manchester Islamic Institute
5 Sidney Street
Off Oxford Road
Manchester     L1 7HB

After Imam Baqir (PBUH) who well used the condition to talk about the real Islam, Imam Sadiq added significantly to the publication of Islam, pointing out the rationalism and excellence of the Shia with training numerous students, such as Jabir Ibn Hayyan out of his over 2000 students. Knowing about Jabir who is reputed as the ‘Father of Chemistry’ is enough to ponder who knowledgeable Jabir’s trainer has been. Tradition of Mufaddal is another example of the great knowledge Imam had. He developed Shia with revealing its wisdom which was suppressed by the wrong governments after the Prophet (PBUH&HF), and thus, Shia is attributed to Ja’fari as well. Obviously, such person could not be tolerated by the cruel Abbasid caliphs, and saddly, they found his martyrdom as the only way to halt him providing people with the truth, knowledge and wisdom.

Please do inform your friends of this event.

Hope to see you all.

Some Tips for Sahar Time

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Some Tips for Sahar Time

Some tips have been given for sahar time to make it more grateful. What follows is a few highlighted tips which are reminded to the faithful brothers and sisters.

1. Having sohour (sahar time food) has been highly recommended. Prophet (PBUH&HF) has advised not to miss sohour even if it is just one piece of date. It seems that it is very beneficial for a Muslim to wake up before Fajr Adhan and receive the gifted blessing of that time.

2. Recitation of Chapter al-Qadr (97) for sohour is very useful as well as for fotour. Imam Sadiq (PBUH) has said: any faithful who recites this chapter of the Holy Quran both at the time of fotour and while having sohour gets the reward of shaheed between these two times.

3. Dua Sahar which contains high concepts around the attributes of the Almighty  Allah has been found very helpful for those who have planned to get their best out of such selected time. This dua has particularly focused on outstanding monotheistic issues.

4. Sahar time is a unique time for reciting one of the most beautiful duas taught by Imam Sajjaad (PBUH), Dua of Abu Hamzah Thumaali. High statements of this dua have been specially designed for whispering at sahar time.

Please do not forget to pray for all people around the globe, specially Muslims, specially Shia, specially the servants of Ahl al-Bait.

1400 Salawaat to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) and Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUH)

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

1400 Salawaat to the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) and Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUH)

“God and His angels shower their blessings on the Prophet; O believers, you should also send your blessings on him, and salute him with a worth greeting” (33:56)

اَللّهُمَ صَلِّ علی مُحَمّدٍ  و آل ِ مُحَمّدٍ

Liverpool Shia Society congratulates the great birthday anniversaries of the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) and Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUH).

Liverpool Shia Society commences a one-day scheme for reading 1400 salawaat to gift it to the holy Prophet and his son, Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUT) to treasure such invaluable anniversary. The Commander of the Believers, Imam Ali (PBUH), has mentioned, “when he (the holy Prophet) was born, the idols located in Ka’bah fell down all on their faces, and at the night, a sound announced from the sky that, ‘the truth has come, and the falsehood has nullified; verily, falsehood is perishable’, and…” [Montahi al-Aamaal]

Should any of us read 90 to 100 salaawat, it is predicted that 1400 salawaat will be fulfilled today. However, it would be most grateful if you could send off this massage to your family and friends to rocket up the number of salawaats gifted to the holy Prophet and Imam Ja’far Sadiq (PBUT). Let’s recall two traditions about the tail benefits of salawaat, further to its substantial phase which is showing your respect to the holy Prophet and his family (PBUT).

Whoever reads just one salawaat, the Almighty Allah will open the window of health and blessing to him.” [Jaam’i al-Akhbaar]

Whoever reads salawaat to the holy Prophet, the Almighty Allah and His angels will shower him with their blessing.” [Osouli Kaafi]

Therefore, it is worth to circulate the massage amongst your family and friends.
