Was That Just to Say, “Ali, I Love You”?

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Was That Just to Say, “Ali, I Love You”?

I have a story and would like to share it with you.

Last summer, it was extremely hot and I was hosting a great friend of mine and his family coming from Tehran to Mashad.  They stayed with us for a few days to do what they had come for to Mashad. Afterwards, they packed up to return to Tehran.  It was about midday, around 11 O’clock when they left.  After an hour, I called him on his mobile asking, where they were.  “We are about 50 km from Mashad on our way to Tehran.  We’ll in-shaa-Allah arrive in Tehran tomorrow.  Anything up?”, he replied.

-   Can you please drive back to Mashad as quickly as you can?  Something crucial has risen and I’ve got to talk to you about it.

*   What do you mean by crucial?

-   You just come back.  I’ll tell you what.

*   Come on! Please tell me over the phone. It’s really too hot to drive back to Mashad again.  I should be in Tehran by tomorrow for an important job to do.

-   No excuses! You should get back here right now.

*   Couldn’t you tell me later?

-    No way mate.  I should talk to you today.

Poor friend; I insisted and he found no way but to return to Mashad in such hot weather while his car had no air-conditioner.  While I found him so eager to hear the crucial matter, I told him, honestly from my deep heart, “I love you!” But I don’t understand why he got mad and why he looked at me so angrily.  He shouted, “Was that all???”  I just said, “Yes.”

*   You had already told me you loved me, hadn’t you?

-   Well, yes but this time it was more formal…

He was really angry with me when he understood I made him to get back this long distance just for telling I loved him.  His family was all angry and about to kill me.  But, believe me; I just tried telling him I loved him heartedly in front of others.

Whoever heard the story advised me what I did was absolutely wrong and foolish.  What about you?  What do you think?

.

.

.

That’s right!  No wise accepts that.  I made them getting back in such miserably hot day only and only to tell him I liked him.

So how is it possible to agree with Sunnis claiming that the Holy Prophet stopped 120,000 people for 3 days in a hot desert under sharp sunshine just and just to say, “Ali, I love you”, “O people, Ali is my friend”?  I cannot believe he would do so.

Moment by Moment: Expectation The advent of Al-Qa’im- Part 1-3

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Part 1: Expecting the Signs vs. Expecting al-Qa’im(PBUH)

1-3- The Badaa and its Significance

There are many pieces of evidence in the Quran and the traditions expressing that Allah may change what He has already willed and He may initiate a new will. However, as we discussed earlier, there is an exception for His Sunan and His promises that He has chosen not to change at all.

The will of Allah is the creation of Allah. Thus, this change only occurs in the created information and does not imply any change in His Eternal Knowledge (i.e., His Essence). In other words, the novelty occurs in Allah’s action, and not in Allah’s Essence. Allah eternally knew what He would change later. By al-Badaa, only the created information that has been visible (al-Shahada) for the vice-regents of Allah becomes invisible (al-Ghaib) and vice versa. The visible information is about what Allah has willed to happen in the past and in the future (Ilm Ma Kan wa Ma Yakun), and the invisible information is about all other infinite possibilities that Allah has not willed to happen (Ilm Ma Lam Yakon).

Numerous verses in the Quran prove that Allah’s hands are open to originate or change anything in His creation. For instance:

And the Jews said, “The hand of Allah is tied up.” Be their hands tied up and be they accursed for what they uttered. Nay, His hands are outstretched. (5:64)

Allah erases whatever He wills and establishes (likewise), and with Him is the Mother-Book. (13:39)

Your Lord creates whatever He wills, and He chooses. No choice have they (in creation or in leadership as per traditions). Glory to Allah! And far is He above the partners they ascribe! (28:68)

If  He so wills, He removes you and brings in a new Creation. Nor is that (at all) difficult for Allah. (14:19-20; 35:16-17)

Every day He brings in a (new) matter/situation. (55:29)

He increases in the creation what He wills, for Allah has power over all things. (35:1)

Nor is an individual’s life prolonged, nor does anything decrease from his life span, except that it is (made appear) in a book. Verily, all this is easy for Allah. (35:11)

In a very long discourse narrated from Imam Ali (PBUH), he has stated the following regarding al-Badaa:

Imam Ali (PBUH) said, “As for he who denies al-Badaa, (it would suffice that) Allah said in His Book, ‘So turn away from them, and you are not blameworthy’ (51:54) (by which) Allah, the exalted, intended their destruction on earth at that time. Then, Allah rectified for them by His mercy, and made Badaa regarding their destruction, and revealed to His Apostle, ‘And remind, for reminding benefits the believers.’ (51:55) A similar case is His saying, ‘But Allah was not to punish them while you were among them; nor was He to punish them while they ask for forgiveness.’ (8:33) Then Allah made Badaa (by revealing), ‘But what plea have they that Allah should not punish them when they keep out (men) from the Sacred Mosque?’ (8:34) Similarly, it is His saying, ‘If there are twenty tolerant among you, they will overcome two hundred, and if there are a hundred (like them) among you, they will overcome a thousand of those who disbelieve.’ (8:65) He then made Badaa and said, ‘Now, Allah lightened your (burden) for He knew that there is a weakness in you. Thus, if there are a hundred tolerant among you, they will overcome two hundred, and if there are a thousand (like them) among you, they will overcome two thousands by leave of Allah. And Allah is with those who are patient.’ (8:66) This way, Allah carried out the matter in the abrogating (Nasikh) and the abrogated (Mansukh). This shows the reformation of what was originated. Furthermore, it is His saying, ‘Allah wipes off whatever He wills and records (likewise), and with Him is the Mother-Book.’ (13:39) Hence, does He wipe off (anything) except that which existed (i.e., its will was existent)? And, does He record (anything) except that which did not exist (i.e., its will was non-existent)? There are many examples like these in the Quran…”[[1]]

In another verse of the Quran, Allah states:

فَلَوْ لا كانَتْ قَرْيَةٌ آمَنَتْ فَنَفَعَها إِيمانُها إِلاَّ قَوْمَ يُونُسَ لَمَّا آمَنُوا كَشَفْنا عَنْهُمْ عَذابَ الْخِزْيِ فِي الْحَياةِ الدُّنْيا وَ مَتَّعْناهُمْ إِلى‏ حِينٍ‏.

Why had not there been a township (among those We decreed to destroy) whose people would accept faith so that their faith should have profited them, except for the People of Jonah (Yunus)? When they believed, We removed from them the chastisement of ignominy in the life of this world, and permitted them to enjoy (their life) for a while. (10:98)

The above verse points to a glaring example of al-Badaa that took place for the People of Prophet Yunus (PBUH) whose calamity was kept off and prevented. Due to their rejection of Allah’s commandments and their disbelief, they became subjected to the severe wrath of the Almighty. At the time that the punishment was about to manifest, Prophet Yunus (PBUH) distanced himself from them and went far away. Upon his leaving, people came to their senses and suddenly changed their behavior and became mindful of Allah. They pleaded for mercy to the Almighty Allah from the depth of their hearts. Subsequently, Allah decided to avert the calamity that was about to be inflicted upon them all.

Another example for Allah’s change of decision is when we pray to Him. If Allah chooses to respond to our prayer, He initiates real change in the outside world and may re-plan our future. Allah states in the Quran:

اُدْعُونِي أَسْتَجِبْ لَكُمْ.

Call on Me so that I answer you. (40:60)

My Lord would have not concerned Himself with you if it were not for your call (upon Him). (25:77)

There are sayings from the Imams (PBUT) indicating that Allah may cancel a decisive and confirmed decree (Qadhaa al-Mubram) regarding a worldly punishment that is about to take place, merely due to the supplication (Du’aa) of His servant. For instance, it is narrated:

Imam Musa al-Kadhim (PBUH) said, “I advise you to make supplication (Du’aa). Certainly supplication and request from Allah, the mighty and the majestic, drive away an affliction that was planned, was passed, and all that was remaining was its execution (Imdhaa). When Allah is called upon and is implored, He averts the affliction in an amazing way.”[[2]]

As we have seen, there are many pieces of evidence in the Quran that clearly disprove the doctrine which states “the pen has dried up having written down all future events”. In contrast, the followers of Ahl al-Bait (PBUT) do not emulate the Jews who considered that Allah had concluded the matter. We believe Allah’s hands are open to do as He wills. Nevertheless, Allah does not act without purpose. The changes in decree have educational purposes for people including the prophets and the Imams, peace be upon them all. Although people may usually be unaware of the details of all such changes in the world, by realizing the general concept of al-Badaa, one will truly understand that everything is in the hands of Allah and He is able to do all things at any time, and that it is never too late for Him to do anything He wills. It demonstrates the absolute freedom of Allah, the Glorious, in all His actions and that He is never restricted by His own creations, including His previous will. Moreover, it removes the sense of compulsion and irrevocable predestination, giving sinners hope that Allah may totally revise their past and future. It encourages them to strive hard, supplicate to Allah, and act upon good deeds with the hope that Allah may fix their deeds and may change their fate. Zurara Ibn A’ayun and Hisham Ibn Salim narrated:

Imam al-Sadiq (PBUH) said, “Allah was not worshipped to the extent that He was worshipped due to al-Badaa. Allah was not glorified as much as He was glorified due to al-Badaa.”[[3]]

Demise Anniversary of Lady Zainab (PBUH)

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Demise Anniversary of Lady Zainab (PBUH)

Unfortunately, due to technical problems, Liverpool Towhid Centre has had to cancel the programme.

Liverpool Towhid Centre is running a programme to highlight the demise anniversary of Lady Zainab (PBUH) who was actually the messenger of the great event of Karbala.  With her speech in the Umawi Palace, she unveiled the truth of the battle of Karbala and discovered the real, nasty face of the Umawi dynasty to the people.  Without her efforts, the story of Karbala would not reach us and the Umawi dynasty could account for martyring the Master of the Martyrs, Imam Hussain (PBUH).

The programme is to start at 8.30 pm ending at 10 pm with saying the Maghrib and Isha prayers in group.  Please arrive on time so that you can use all the parts of programme in your best.  The guest will be served supper which is the time slot brothers and sisters can communicate for further improvement of the centre.

Hope to see you all again.

Acts of the Holy Month of Rajab

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Acts of the Holy Month of Rajab

The Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) said, “The month of Rajab is the month of Allah (SWT); Sha’baan is my month; and Ramadhan is the month of my people. Therefore, if anyone observes fasting on a day of this month, he will be seeking the pleasure of Allah (SWT)…

Here is the month of Rajab; the month for self-purification. May God help all of us purify ourselves from evil desires and bad habits, and help us overcome our worldly desires.
First day of the month of Rajab is the birthday anniversary of Imam Baqir (PBUH), the 5th Imam of Shia and a famous figure in Muslim world. Congratulations to all.
Imam Mohammad Baqir said, “Learn the good words, even from those who do not act upon it.
“Convey my greetings to my Shias. Order them to fear Allah, the Great. Their rich should visit their poor. Their sound should visit their ill. Their living should attend the funeral of their demised. They should meet each other in their houses. Indeed their meeting each other enlivens our affair. May Allah have mercy on one who enlivens our affair and puts the best of it into effect. Say to them, we will suffice nothing for them with Allah except through their good deeds. They will not obtain our intercession but through piety and hard work. Indeed the most intense of all people in regret on the Day of Judgment is the one who describes a certain deed, and then he does other than it.” (Uyun al-Akhbar wa Funun al-Atha)

The Holy Month of Rajab is upon us. The largest number of Islamic occasions in an Islamic year is within this month.

Important Dates and Events in Rajab
1st – Birthday anniversary of Imam Muhammad Al-Baqir (PBUH)
3rd – Martyrdom anniversary of Imam Ali Al-Naqi Al-Hadi (PBUH)
10th – Birthday anniversary of Imam Muhammad Al-Taqi Al-Jawad (PBUH)
13th – Birthday anniversary of Amir ul-Mo’mineen Ali Ibn Abi Talib (PBUH)
14th – Birthday anniversary of Prophet Ibrahim (PBUH) (according to another source 1st of Zhul Hajjah has been mentioned too)
15th – Demise of Lady Zainab (PBUH)
25th – Martyrdom anniversary of Imam Musa Al-Kadhim (PBHU)
26th – Night of Me’raaj and Ba’that (proclaim) of Prophet Muhammad (PBUH&HF)
28th – Imam Hussain Ibn Ali (PBUH) leaves Medina for Karbala

Islamic Insights – Allah loves us too much to let us fall behind in good deeds – He has gifted us with an opportunity in the form of Rajab that easily trumps the ‘business’ excuse! This blessed month is filled with simple ways to develop a stronger sense of God-consciousness; so why let it slip by unnoticed?

The Gifts of Rajab
Rajab is a month of many special days, including the birth anniversaries of our first, fifth and ninth Imams, the day when the Prophet (PBUH&HF) officially proclaimed Islam, and the day when he ascended to the heavens (Me’raaj). To top it all off, the Almighty Allah (SWT) has made it an especially honoured month for us to seek His forgiveness, to earn rewards, and – above all – to attain nearness to Him through worship.

Do not forget to pray for your brothers and sisters.

Mourning Event on the Anniversary of Great Lady Fatima (PBUH) Martyrdom

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Mourning Event on the Anniversary of Great Lady Fatima (PBUH) Martyrdom

Amid the wall and the wooden door,
Prophet’s daughter lied helplessly on the floor.
Her father sacrificed his youth for lighting the lamp;
she consumed herself; to brighten that lamp.
Cry of distress Zahra made;
a final farewell to the world she bade.
She gathered her children around her bed,
struggling to breathe; she firmly said;
“Oh the delight of my eyes,
raise your hands towards the skies.
I’ll make a prayer and pray with me.
Ya Allah hasten the death of mine.”
The young children gleamed with joy
to see their mother praying for her recovery …
How touching were those moments to see
them chanting “Ameen” so loudly!
Had Hassanian known, had Zainab known
that with this prayer, mother shall forever be gone;
They wouldn’t raise their tiny hands up
instead, would held onto their begging cup.
Asking kind Allah to make mother live long;
to give her strength & make her strong.
Alas, they were too young to know
how their innocent prayer would be answered in a go.
The impact of the injury was so great
for Mohsin to be saved; it was too late
his first home became his final abode
in womb of his mother, his death was bestowed

Some Characteristics of Al-Abbas (PBUH)

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Some Characteristics of Al-Abbas (PBUH)

By Dr Hameed H. B. Al-Mas’udi

Al-Abbas (PBUH) received a great deal of praise and appreciation by our immaculate imams, who expressed and indicated their admiration for his heroic deeds which were culminated by his martyrdom while defending the third imam, Al-Hussain Ibn Ali (PBUT) in Karbala in 61 AH. Imam Ali (PBUH), their father, predicted the responsibility of Al-Abbas (PBUH) in defending his brother and his family and companions in Karbala. Imam Hussain (PBUH), when Al-Abbas (PBUH) was just passing away, said, “I have now become helpless”. Imam Zain ul-Abideen (PBUH), the fourth immaculate imam, expressed his gratitude for the sacrifices offered by Al-Abbas (PBUH) in defending his religion and belief. Imam Sadiq (PBUH), our sixth immaculate imam, has reportedly mentioned in his ziaarat (pilgrimage) to Al-Abbas (PBUH), “I testify to you for your submission (to the will of God), honest acceptance as true, loyalty and sincerity to the descendent of the commissioned Prophet (Allah’s blessings be upon him and his Household).” Then he addresses him as follows, “You were the most excellent steadfast fighter, protector, supporter and brother who defended his brother, responded to the obedience of his Lord, and worked desirably for gaining the abundant reward, which others refused, and the nice tribute.” (Mafatih al-Jinan (The Keys to the Gardens of Paradise), 2009: 431 and 438)

In the excerpt above, Imam Sadiq (PBUH) mentions some characteristics of Al-Abbas (PBUH). The importance of such characteristics arises from the fact that they are stated by an immaculate, infallible imam, who calls things by their real names. These characteristics are as follows:

  1. Submission to the will of God: Al-Abbas (PBUH) was completely aware of the imamate of his brother, Imam Hussain (PBUH); therefore, he did his best to defend him, not because he was his brother, but because he was his imam, through whom he submitted to Allah (SWT).
  2. Honest acceptance as true: Al-Abbas (PBUH) devoted himself and his three brothers for his belief. He indicated that he was the best representative of a faithful believer throughout his obedience to the Almighty Allah (SWT).
  3. Loyalty:  This characteristic is indicated through his support of the right side represented by his brother, Imam Hussain (PBUH) in his ordeal, although Al-Abbas (PBUH) received a big deal by those enemies who pretended to be his uncles on the part of his mother.
  4. Sincerity: This is another characteristic of Al-Abbas (PBUH). In fact, he was sincere in his defence of his brother Imam Hussain (PBUH) in Karbala, in his fights throughout his life accompanying his father, and in his opposition to the wrongdoers.

In his other speeches, Imam Sadiq (PBUH) furthermore mentioned other features of Al-Abbas (PBUH), such as his clear-sightedness, steadfast faith and jihad for Islam.

Importance of Prophets/ Religion

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Importance of Prophets/ Religion

Kumail narrated that Imam Ali (PBUH) said:

يا كميل لو لم يظهر نبي و كان في الأرض مؤمن تقي لكان في دعائه إلى الله مخطئا أو مصيبا بل و الله مخطئا حتى ينصبه الله لذلك و يؤهله له

“… O Kumail! If no Prophet had appeared on earth while there was a mindful believer, do you think, in his call towards Allah, he would go wrong or right? Nay, by Allah! He would certainly go wrong until Allah sets a (religion/path/prophet) to instruct him and makes him worthy (of receiving the Prophet) and familiar with (his religion).” *

Allah said in the Holy Quran:

مَنْ يَهْدِ اَللَّهُ فَهُوَ اَلْمُهْتَدِ وَ مَنْ يُضْلِلْ فَلَنْ تَجِدَ لَهُ وَلِيًّا مُرْشِداً

He whom Allah guides, is rightly guided; but he whom Allah leaves astray, you will not find for him any advising guardian. (18:17)

Remainings of the Ghadir Khum Place

In the Name of Allah the Compassionate the Merciful

Remainings of the Ghadir Khum Place

The image below is where Ghadir Khum event took place 1421 lunar years ago. It has been reported that there was a pond, around which the ground had a particular bowl-like shape. Therefore, the people standing around could clearly without obstruction see and hear every thing. This could help all the presents see and hear what the Messenger of Allah (PBUH&HF) conveyed from the Almighty Allah for people and what he asked them to do further to witnessing, appreciating Imam Ali’s (PBUH) guardianship and pledging with him.

Certainly, I just conveyed what I have been ordered to convey as an argument against everyone, be him present or absent, a direct witness or not, and already born or not yet born. Hence, everyone who is present should convey (this sermon) to those who are absent, every parent should convey it to his/her children, (and they should continue to do so) until the Day of Judgement.
